Acads, Cricket, Movies, ......Life

Acads? Hmm......I don't want to blog on that. It's something I have to deal almost every minute of my life. I am almost twenty-five and have been studying since I was, like what,..... four years old? Yeah! I must have been about four when I started my education. It almost feels like I have done nothing in life! I know many who will go to any lengths to convince me along these lines. Most believe I am well and truly wasting my time doing this PhD. Even though my blog title suggests I will be writing about grad school and acads let me warn everyone that I will hardly do any of that.

Cricket? YES! I love the sport. No doubt about that. But frankly, India has only seen some of its biggest successes in recent times. I am sure if Tendulkar were offered a test win in Perth in 1992 in lieu of 28000 runs he'd happily trade. Poor Sachin, I feel sorry that he's had to wait so many years to be a part of this ODI series win in Australia. This is the first time India has won a series in Australia after the splendid win in 1985. I guess only after having experienced many failures does one cherish the taste of success. Who is the one to be credited for this series? If I were to pick one factor it'd have to be the selectors who bred youth at the expense of the old warhorses. I remember arguing with my friends that this is the path we'd have to adopt if we were to win the next WC. They said it was too far. I didn't agree. BUT I never envisaged this result where we'd win without losing one final! Even the most optimist of supporters would not have forecast this result. I can guarantee that as I that most optimist supporter. Waking up to the win in the second final was the second best morning in the US for me. The first was waking up to the test win at Perth. Ganguly has made statements that he has been dropped when he was in good form. He may crib and whine. But I'd like to ask him if he could have assured a better show than the current team's. Ganguly & co. who have been axed have had their fair share in the ODI squad where their only big victories were the Natwest Trophy and sharing a champions' trophy. Dhoni & co. have done much better in a span of seven months! If there ever is a time to move on, this has to be it. However, I have to add that I can't visualise a test side without the guys who are complaining about not being in the ODI team. They must focus on winning a few series abroad. It's high time we won a test series in NZ, RSA and SL. We need these same old warhorses in the pure form of this sport.

Have made an effort to excite myself with some of the soon to be released films. I watched trailers of 'Speed Racer', the new Indiana Jones and some other movies. The Wachowski Bros. have made speed racer and it looks very interesting to me. I love these guys for the matrix and the great superhero 'V'. Steven Spielberg needs no introduction and neither does Indiana Jones. I am afraid that after a few years I shall Harrison Ford only as Indiana Jones or Hans Solo. I will try to catch these movies on the day of release. I also happened to watch 'Johnny Gaddaar' again with my housemate. It was just as good as watching it for the first time. Personally, this movie is a masterpiece.

Life is getting interesting. But having been so involved with work the past few days I have no interest in it. I must add that I have a lot to do in the coming nine days.
